12 DAYS OF TIPS, TRICKS AND HOW-TO'S - DAY #3

Do you ever wish there was an easy way to tell when it's time for new tires? Knowing ahead of time would certainly be better than finding out as you sit on the side of the road, with a flat!

We've put together some quick and useful tips for you, that make it super easy to keep track of your tire wear and help prepare you for the dreaded tire purchase ahead of time!
  • TIP#1: Check your tire date code - immediately after receiving them or having them mounted on your bike! The date code is located in an oval impression that is located directly after the D.O.T. code. Every tire manufactured has to have a D.O.T. code and date code. The four-digit date code reads as follows: the first two numbers are the week of manufacture and the next two are the year of manufacture. Your tires should be replaced no later than five years from that date code. If the five years are up - it's time to replace!
  • TIP#2: Keep a keen eye on your tire tread wear bars! the wear bars are not as easily detected as the tire date code, so we've included some pictures to help you along. The first picture displays the arrow (or diamond) that points to where the wear bar is located on the tire. (The wear bars are small bumps that indicate minimum tread depth for safe operation and run across the tread pattern of the tire). The second picture is of a wear bar inside the tread. See how it looks like a little bump of rubber? When the surface rubber of your tire and the wear bar are almost flush with each other - it's time to replace!
It is also a good idea to maintain proper tire pressure. You'll get better gas mileage, and it helps add life to your tire! We hope you find these tips helpful and look forward to seeing you out on the road!
Ride Easy!

Meet Martin - Yankee Dave's Newest Addition!

4/18/2019

WOW! It's hard to believe that it's been since November since we've made a blog post. Time has sure been zooming by! If you haven't been by the shop in awhile, we invite you to stop in to have a look - so much has changed in the past few months. One recent change that we are excited to announce, is the newest addition to our family.

MEET  MARTIN(pronounced Mar-Teen)

Picture
Martin has been wrenching on bikes here for a little over a month now and we couldn't be happier! Dave has mentioned on numerous occasions that when it comes to repair work, Martin reminds him of himself, when he was a young lad (and trust me...that was a LONG time ago!)

He is currently working towards his Motorcycle/Motorsport Mechanic Certification. Trust us though...he's a natural! He spent many years working with his dad buying, repairing, building and flipping scooters and he's resurrected a couple of Motorcycles for his own personal use.

The very first one being A Yamaha Midnight Maxim, which came in a box. Talk about vision - you don't get to meet many people nowadays who can say they've had their go at a basket case! Although he still has the Yamaha - you'll most likely find him riding his Chopped out Honda Goldwing, which was not in running/road worthy condition when he got it either. So there ya go Goldwing Guys...we've got an expert in-house!

Get to know Martin better Q & A

1. What motivates you to be into Motorcycle Repair?
I just like working on Bikes. Seriously though, I have always liked working on engines and when I was younger, I hoped to become a Motorcycle Mechanic.
2. What do you like most about working at Yankee Dave's Motorsports?
It's easy going, relaxed atmosphere and I love that I've got my own space here.
3. What's your dream project?
I would love to have a customer come in with a frame and ask me to build them their dream bike from the frame up.
